Default "Getting into" Pvp...

Yea I've been a pve player for a while... and I normally ignore pvp, but due to the nature of this game I'm beggining to exhaust any replayability pve can offer... and I might as well make the money I spent on these games worth it, so I guess it's time for me to start trying pvp.

So how did you get into pvp? I've unlocked TA, and look foward to never playing RA again... I can't friggen stand that arena. I'm not in a guild though, so I really have no one to unlock HA with and people to learn from. I've also never done GvG... My goal is to eventually play HA and win some halls, although I know I'm very far from that now.

What's a better introduction to pvp though? Should I just pug TA, or try to find a half decent guild to GvG in? The big stepping stone for me is going to be getting into a "team" mentality... because for months all I've done in this game is play pve solo, where I have to be a one man team... so it's hard for me to think of builds where my skills interacts with other people's skills, and not just my own.

Yea so, for those HoH champs around here... how did you get to where you are now?

Oh yea, and I don't make "friends" in this game... I pretty much play to get away from people, not e-hand hold with them. So just telling me to go play with friends won't apply. I can handle being part of a team of competent folks though.. Also, I do have nightfall but I can't use heros in TA and I tried that Hero arena and I don't WTF the objective is there... but I don't think I'm gonna learn much from my heros.

Well, the best advice I can give you is really, get in a guild. XoO, I believe, has a GvG and HoH training guild, and as far as I know they're not stingy about applicants, but don't quote me on that (10 bucks says someone's gonna use the quote feature here to quote that).

I can't remember the website off the top of my head, but google Xen of Onslaught and you should find it.

To be honest, playing with people who know the game and are willing to teach is the best way to get started once you have the basics down, which you should by doing enough RA. So check XoO out and see what they could do for you.

Getting in a guild is the best way. PUGing in RA/TA isn't really going to get you anywhere. Find people to play with. Look for activity over quality. Otherwords, dont aim for a top 100 guild. To much trouble to get into one and it can be a trial by fire =/ The more you play, the more practice you get.

Copy builds from top teams on obs mode. You can take stuff of guru/wiki, but there is an inherent risk. I know when I converted to PvP, I didn't even have the slightlest clue what a boon prot was.

Watch how people on obs use their skills, position, kite, use weapons, et cetera. Look for mistakes and ask yourself how to correct them (take advantage of the new guild obs mode too). There are very few people out there that will teach you how to pvp, you really have to teach yourself.

Play several classes, you learn more about the game that way. As you get a better understanding, then you can specialize.

Just to make you feel special Relambrien,

XoO is a good idea. I have no personal experience, but I know a lot of people who were a part of various XoO guilds for awhile.

XoO has training divisions for both HA and GvG. It's a good way for a completely inexperienced person to learn the ropes. There are very few guilds that take novices. XoO does take novices and will actually train them.

Honestly, it sounds like you are screwed. The casual PvP in GW is RA. Yes, they are idiots. To really get into PvP in GW you really have to be willing to get and use voice chat. Additionally, you really have to find a consistant group to play with to improve. You will have to find a PvP oriented guild to stand a chance.

Your best shot is being completely willing to play anything handed to you and trying to learn from existing strong players. The key to learning PvP is getting rid of any notion of having "your unique build" or "cheesy" or "lame." Consume everything, play everything, understand everything. Soak in every idea you can get, figure out their viability, and apply them.

You may also want to search for a PvP oriented guild on other GW sites (guru is worthless when it comes to finding guilds, especially PvP guilds.)

Eh, a guild is your best bet. I was lucky to have a R9 friend in real life, so he got me into some of his groups (I just had to pretend I knew what I was doing ). If you don't have that, a guild is the best way... guild groups are more patient, and they'll teach you the builds, instead of assuming you know them, and raging when you lose. Plus, you won't join any "R3+" groups, only to find they're running Firestorm spike (true story...).

I SO called that ^^.

But yeah, look for an active guild that you can play with and practice with, like XoO. I know a couple people who have been in their training guilds and they say they enjoyed it a lot.
